Our Story
A Kitchen Born
from Family Love
Yana Kitchen is a small family kitchen sitting quietly in Panauti, Kavre, run with love by Rasna Shrestha and her family. It was never meant to be a restaurant. It is simply a real home where the stove is always on and there is always room at the table for one more person.
Rasna grew up in a Newari household where the kitchen was the heart of everything. She learned to cook from her mother the way most Newari children do, watching and helping and tasting along the way. She picked up the knowledge of authentic Newari and Nepali cuisine quietly and joyfully, grinding fresh spices, making chiura from scratch, and laying out a full samay baji platter for every celebration. That warmth and that knowledge is what she brings into every class she teaches.
She opened Yana Kitchen so that anyone curious about real Newari food could come in, roll up their sleeves, and cook something they will remember for a long time. The recipes belong to her family. The kitchen is exactly as it has always been. And everyone who sits at her table goes home full in more ways than one.
Not a restaurant, not a show. Just Rasna's actual kitchen in Panauti.
You cook alongside the family, not just watch from a distance.
Every dish is prepared with the same love reserved for family.
